BFT keypad and intercom repair in San Jose typically runs $185 – $420 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a worn keypad membrane, a failed intercom board, or the full entry station. We carry BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and wiring harnesses on the truck, so most repairs are done the same day we arrive at your driveway. The way most San Jose owners discover the failure is simple: the keypad stops chirping when you press buttons, the intercom stops calling your phone, or the gate only opens from one side of the system.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
This guide covers the BFT entry hardware most common in San Jose: the RIGEL series, MITTO keypads, and the PERSEO and THALIA intercom panels that pair with BFT control boards. If you have a BFT sliding or swing gate from the last 10 to 15 years, your keypad or intercom almost certainly falls into one of these lines. The fastest way to identify what you have is to look at the label on the back of the keypad housing or the inside edge of the intercom faceplate. You’ll see a model code like RIGEL 5, MITTO 2, or PERSEO C. We keep those model numbers in our parts database, so when you call, having that code ready cuts the diagnosis time in half.
One BFT-specific gotcha worth knowing: not every keypad talks to every control board. The older BFT Rigel keypads use a different communication protocol than the newer MITTO line, and wiring a MITTO into an older board without the right interface module creates intermittent failures that drive owners crazy. We’ve seen more than one San Jose homeowner replace a keypad twice before someone spotted the compatibility issue. Calder Gate Repair is an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT, but we work with factory-spec parts and quality aftermarket equivalents daily. For intercoms, the aftermarket options are thinner than keypads. The PERSEO panels especially have tight fitment and wiring pinouts that make OEM or factory-equivalent parts the safer call.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Buttons work intermittently or require hard presses. The silicone membrane under the keys wears out over time, especially in San Jose’s dry summer heat, which accelerates cracking. Once water or dust gets in, the contacts corrode and the keypad gets flakier by the week.
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. This usually points to a failed connection between the keypad and the BFT control board, or a blown relay on the keypad’s output. It’s a wiring or board-level issue, not the gate motor itself.
- The intercom rings but you can’t hear or speak clearly. The microphone and speaker modules in BFT intercom panels are exposed to weather constantly. After several rainy seasons or a few hard winters, the mic capsule fails and callers hear you as muffled static or not at all.
- Water intrusion or visible corrosion inside the housing. The gasket seals on older BFT keypads shrink and harden. Condensation from Bay Area fog cycles doesn’t help. Once water gets inside, the circuit traces start to fail.
- The keypad backlight is dead or flickering. This is often the first visible sign that the unit’s power regulation is failing. Sometimes it’s a simple bulb or LED module, but on several BFT models, the backlight circuit shares a path with the keypad logic. If the flicker continues, the whole unit isn’t far behind.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most BFT keypad replacements in San Jose run $185 – $290 installed, including the new keypad, mounting hardware, wiring, and configuration. Intercom repairs run wider, $240 – $420 installed, because sometimes the panel itself is fine and the problem is a failed power supply or a corroded wiring run at the gate. When the intercom board is damaged beyond repair, the full panel replacement is the honest call. Every quote is a written price agreed before we touch a single bolt. That number includes labor, parts, testing, and a walkthrough of the repair. If the repair fails within 365 days, Calder returns at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few safe checks any San Jose owner can do: confirm power is reaching the keypad, check the breaker, and look for obvious water damage or corrosion on the face of the unit. But once you’re opening the housing and testing wires on a live BFT system, you’re working with 12 to 24 volts DC that feeds into your gate’s control board. A shorted wire in the wrong place can take out the keypad and the control board in one move, and suddenly a $220 keypad repair becomes a $700 board replacement. BFT intercoms add another wrinkle: the low-voltage audio wiring is sensitive to polarity, and reversing a pair of wires can burn out the microphone circuit. If you’re not confident with a multimeter, call us at (669) 666-6859. We’ll give you the straight answer on what failed and what it costs to fix.
FAQs
Expect 7 to 10 years from a BFT keypad and 8 to 12 from an intercom panel before weather and wear take a real toll. Units facing direct afternoon sun, especially on south-facing gates near the Almaden Valley or Evergreen foothills, tend to wear out a couple years faster than shaded ones.
Sometimes. If the membrane is cracked, it’s a replacement. But if the issue is a loose wire, a corroded terminal, or a failed relay, we can often repair the unit for less than half the cost of replacement. Call (669) 666-6859 for an honest diagnosis and a written price.
Most keypad swaps take 45 to 90 minutes on site. Intercom panel replacements run 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the wiring condition and whether we’re reusing existing conduit runs. We schedule a live arrival time you can track, and we’ll have the part on the truck before we roll.
Yes. Our trucks carry BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, wiring harnesses, and control board components. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if your BFT entry shares a driveway with another brand, we can handle both in one visit.
