FAAC keypad and intercom repair in San Jose typically runs $220 – $480 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing the wired connection or replacing the keypad module outright. Most jobs are done same-day because we keep FAAC-compatible keypads and intercom boards on the truck. The way owners usually find out is simple: the keypad stops lighting up, or it beeps but the gate won’t move, or the intercom crackles so badly you can’t understand who’s at the driveway.
The frustrating part is that a dead keypad doesn’t always mean a dead keypad. Sometimes it’s the wiring run from the house, sometimes it’s the control board inside the operator. That’s why we start every FAAC keypad and intercom call with a 15-minute diagnostic before we quote anything. Written price first, then we turn a bolt, says Nico Alvarez, our owner and lead technician.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We work on the full FAAC residential lineup you’re likely to have in San Jose: the 402, 412, 415, 422, and the newer 390 and 770 series operators, plus the older 455 D and 750 models still running in neighborhoods like Willow Glen and Rose Garden. FAAC keypads tend to be model-specific on the connector side, not the wiring side. That’s the gotcha. A keypad that fits a 412 will often have a different plug than the one on a 390, even if both use the same four-wire communication bus.
There are two ways to identify what you need. First, look at the back of the keypad or the board inside: FAAC stamps a model code like “KP-100” or “KP-Controller.” Second, check the operator itself, usually on a silver sticker near the hinge. If you can’t find either, a photo sent to us by text works. We’ll match it from our stock. We carry quality aftermarket equivalents for most FAAC keypads and intercoms, and we’ll tell you honestly when a genuine FAAC part is the better call. On intercom boards, it usually is. On keypads, an aftermarket unit at half the price often outlasts the original because the silicone membrane is thicker.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with FAAC. When parts cost close to the same, we buy from FAAC’s U.S. distribution network. When aftermarket is smarter for your wallet, we say that too.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad lights up but won’t trigger the gate. The keypad is sending a signal, but the operator isn’t receiving it. Usually a worn relay on the operator control board or a broken wire at the hinge point where the gate flexes hundreds of times a week.
- Buttons work only when pressed hard, or not at all. The silicone membrane underneath has cracked or worn through. This is the single most common failure we see in San Jose, especially on west-facing gates where afternoon sun bakes the keypad daily.
- Intercom audio is scratchy, faint, or cuts out mid-sentence. Water intrusion is the usual culprit. FAAC intercom housings have a drain hole that clogs with dust and pine needles, and once water pools inside, the speaker cone corrodes.
- Gate works from the remote but not from the keypad. This points to the wiring run or the keypad’s internal transmitter, not the operator. In apartments near Santana Row, we often find the shared keypad wiring chewed by rodents in conduit that was never properly sealed.
- Keypad beeps randomly or the gate opens on its own. A failing membrane can bridge contacts, sending phantom signals. Security concern first, nuisance second. We treat these as same-day calls.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Jose, expect to pay $220 – $340 for a standard FAAC keypad replacement including parts and labor. Intercom replacement lands between $280 – $480 depending on whether we’re swapping a handset, a speaker module, or the full intercom board. The range tracks two things: keypad model availability and whether the wiring run needs repair. If the wire is intact, the swap is quick. If the wire is compromised inside the gate hinge, that’s additional labor and you’ll see it as its own line item on the written quote.
Every keypad or intercom repair includes the full diagnostic, the part, installation, programming, and testing. You get a written price before we start, a written guarantee on the repair, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we return at no charge. No callout fee, ever.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious things: make sure the keypad is getting power, clear debris from around the housing, look for visible wire breaks at the gate hinge. But once you’re opening the keypad or the operator cover, you’re dealing with low-voltage wiring that still connects to a live motor and capacitor. A short in the wrong place can fry your FAAC control board, and that’s a $400 – $700 mistake nobody wants to make.
We’ve also seen too many owners try to “clean” a keypad with a pressure washer and end up with water inside the sealed electronics. If the symptom is more than a loose wire you can see with your eyes, call us. Most FAAC keypad and intercom repairs are done in under two hours, which is less time than most people spend watching YouTube tutorials that show a different model anyway. If I can’t explain the repair in plain English, I haven’t understood it well enough yet.

FAQs
In our experience, 5 to 8 years, though west-facing keypads in full afternoon sun often fail a year or two sooner because the membrane dries and cracks. The intercom speaker module is usually the first thing to go, right around year six. If you’re past that window and seeing intermittent problems, replacement beats repeated repairs.
Sometimes, yes. If the issue is a corroded wiring terminal or a broken wire at the hinge, we can repair that without replacing the keypad. But if the membrane or the internal board is failing, the repair cost approaches replacement cost and repair doesn’t make sense. We’ll show you the numbers both ways before we do anything.
Most FAAC keypad replacements take 45 to 90 minutes from arrival to tested and working. Intercom board replacements run closer to two hours because there’s often wiring cleanup and speaker testing involved. You’ll have a live arrival time, so you know exactly when we’ll be there and when we’ll be done.
Yes. We keep FAAC-compatible keypad and intercom modules in stock on every truck, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators. If you have an uncommon FAAC model, we can same-day source the part from FAAC’s U.S. distributors in the Bay Area, and you’ll get a firm price before we order anything. Call (669) 666-6859 and we’ll check stock for your exact model.
